Necessary preparation for graduation

By Jordan Hildebrand ’26, staff writer

As graduation approaches, the pressure on upcoming graduates intensifies, but before they walk across the stage, they have a few things to do.

The first and most important thing that graduates must do is order their cap and gown, and a hood to acknowledge the department they are a part of. Students are required to purchase their own graduation materials.

The last day to purchase materials online is Wednesday, April 15. After that period, the necessary materials can only be purchased from the LVC Gear Shop Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Next on the list, graduates should ensure they have completed and submitted an accurate graduation plan before Monday, April 20. This is to ensure that those graduating in May, August and December have fulfilled their degree requirements and completed any outstanding credits.

Students graduating in May are expected to attend the 157th Commencement ceremony, celebrating their accomplishments and the completion of their collegiate careers. The event will be held on Saturday, May 9, with the undergraduate ceremony beginning at 10 a.m.

For more information, many other events are taking place during the week of commencement to alleviate transitional stress for upcoming graduates, helping those who are nervous to settle into their future.

These events include a toast with LVC President James Maclaren on Wednesday, May 6, at 5:45 p.m., and a senior class photo and party on Thursday, May 7, at 6 p.m. A list of locations for some of these events is available on LVC’s commencement webpage.

Graduation is stressful, but with proper preparation, it can be a smooth transition that celebrates all the hard work students have accomplished.
