For the first time since his freshman year, LVC senior left-handed pitcher Jonathan Klein is training to take the mound again.

Klein, who tore his UCL (ulnar collateral ligament) as a freshman, has spent years battling injuries since then, including nerve damage that has kept him sidelined for multiple seasons now.

Now, after an extensive rehab journey that has been marked by setbacks, Klein is finally on track for a possible return this spring.

Klein’s role on the team still remains uncertain as the team eases him back into action. The coaching staff is trying to balance his long term health with also the possibility of him becoming a valuable contributor later in the year.

The attitude around his comeback is still very positive and his teammates have gathered behind him as he works to get back to action.

Klein’s excitement has only grown throughout this entire process.

“I am extremely excited to get the chance to play again. I have missed being able to play and have worked extremely hard to be able to get this chance again,” said Klein.

Whether he returns as a starter or reliever, Klein’s journey has already become a victory in itself. After years of injuries he is finally close to being able to play the sport he loves one last time.
