For some students, college continues a lifelong passion, while for others it’s a new direction.
LVC students Emma Howard and Brielle Krepps represent both paths.
Emma Howard, a sophomore majoring in political science, entered LVC as an exploratory major before switching. Her father’s background in the subject and the influence of a professor encouraged her to make the switch.
“I was originally an exploratory major, but I took a few political science classes,” Howard said. “There was a professor who convinced me to switch my major.”
While Howard is still in the middle stages of her academic journey in political science, Brielle Krepps is a senior preparing to take her next steps after LVC. She majors in creative writing with a minor in German and has used her time at the college to explore international opportunities and an internship.
Krepps is looking for an opportunity to study abroad and is interested in the German summer program. She also completed an entertainment journalism internship this past spring, where she gained hands-on experience in media writing and communications.
“I enjoyed it,” Krepps said.
Although their majors and career goals are different, both students have chosen LVC as the college to further their careers. Howard is discovering her career path in political science, while Krepps is preparing to start in her field with confidence.
“I’m interested in a summer abroad in Germany,” Krepps said.
Howard shared a similar idea; her choice of major has given her a clearer vision for her future.
“I’m more interested in law, but I enjoy politics,” Howard said.
Whether through politics or publishing, Emma and Brielle’s experiences show how college allows one to improve in a certain field or discover a new path to follow. Both of these students are shaping their futures with careers that reflect their passions and ambitions.
