As part of the Advising and Career Exploration Success Expo, LVC organized various informational sessions to aid students in job searching and networking.
Glen Klinger and Julie Wolfrays from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s (PA DEP) human resources department discussed employment opportunities and the application process.
While the agency seems like a place solely for natural science majors, there are opportunities for a multitude of majors including engineering, business and communications.
“I have been with the department for over a year and with the commonwealth for ten years,” Wolfrays said. “The DEP is my favorite agency to work for. The staff is full of laid-back people that care deeply about what they do.”
The agency accepts many interns each year who develop hard skills, and it provides for the foundation for potential full-time employment.
A benefit of working for the PA DEP is job placement throughout the state. Wolfrays explained how there are offices in the most rural and urban areas, so there is something for everyone.
There is a plethora of projects the agency oversees with job opportunities for people with a variety of skills and a passion for the environment.
“We’re getting to see what the agency does, and it’s incredible,” Wolfrays said.
