The second annual Monster Mash event not only provided a safe trick-or-treating occasion for children with special needs but also allowed LVC students to come together to provide this meaningful experience.

The event occurred on Wednesday, Oct. 18, at the Annville Elementary School. Planning and execution of the Monster Mash was carried out by the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC), which provides opportunities for both students with special needs and educators.

Maddie Ayers, a junior early childhood and special education double major, currently serves as the president of this group.

“The CEC’s mission involves cultivating, supporting and empowering education professionals who work with individuals with disabilities,” Ayers said.

During the Monster Mash, the students could participate in numerous games, crafts and activities facilitated by students from various LVC organizations. The event’s impact cannot be understated: students, teachers and parents were outwardly impressed with the outcome.

“The parents and teachers adored Monster Mash,” Ayers said. “They talked about how they got to see their students or children light up with the activities and truly be themselves!”

The CEC meets on Thursdays at 5 p.m. in Clyde A. Lynch, room 001. Students of all years, majors and campus involvement levels are welcome!
