LVC Music Theatre holds auditions for “Carrie: The Musical”

By Claire Remsnyder ’27, staff writer

LVC music theatre’s auditions for its spring musical, “Carrie,” will be held on Saturday, Oct.
25.

“Carrie: The Musical” is based on the novel by Steven King, and focuses on main character
Carrie White, a teenage girl with telekinetic powers who is bullied both at school and at home.
After being humiliated at prom, Carrie unleashes revenge.

LVC student Karlee Marroncelli has previously performed in LVC music theatre productions of “Tuck Everlasting” as Mae Tuck and “9-5” as Doralee Rhodes with LVC Music Theatre and they are looking
forward to returning to the stage with “Carrie.”

“‘Carrie’ explores themes of adolescence, as well as sexuality and shame. It also provides an
eerie twist on the experience of growing up during high school,” Marroncelli said.

Aside from Carrie herself, there are many notable characters in the show. Antagonists include
Maragaret White, Carrie’s abusive mother; Chris Hargensen who bullies Carrie; and Chris’
boyfriend Billy Nolan who assists in Chris’ plans to humiliate Carrie. Other characters include
Sue Snell, a popular girl at school who teases Carrie but later feels bad for her and attempts to
make up for her actions; Tommy Ross, Sue’s boyfriend who takes Carrie to the prom after Sue asks
him to; and Miss Lynn Gardner and Mr. Stephens, teachers at the high school.

“I’m excited for “Carrie” because it’s such a classic story, but as a musical it brings a new element of understanding the characters through the songs they sing,” Marroncelli said. “I’m also just excited to work with some incredibly talented people once again, and hopefully get to meet new
faces in the program!”

LVC students who are interested in auditioning can sign up at the link in LVC MT’s Instagram
bio. Students will be asked to sign up for a 5-minute audition slot and sing 32 bars of a song
fitting the character that they would like to audition for.

“People should join because it is not only great educational experience in theatre and performing,
but it is also a fun time to collaborate with peers in such a thrilling show!” Marroncelli said.

Auditions will be held from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m. at Blair Music Center. Students can email
Jonathan Walker-VanKuren at jowalker@lvc.edu with any questions.
