The LVC baseball team swept FDU Florham this past weekend, propelling the Dutchmen to the 4th seed for the MAC Freedom playoffs.
The Dutchmen started their hitting streak on Friday at FDU, contributing to a weekend total of 39 hits over the 3-game span against the Devils. Kenny Palmieri homered twice on Sunday in games 1 and 2. Joey Santora and Spencer Butz both hit a homerun as well on Sunday.
Starting pitcher for the Dutchmen, Trey Dianna, talked highly about the team’s performance this past series.
“The guys are rolling right now,” Dianna said. “If we keep playing this way, we have a good chance of keeping our season going for a while.”
Dianna showed out for the Dutchmen in game two on Sunday. He earned the win, giving up five hits over a 7-pitch span and struck out two batters. Owen Barry closed out the game for the Dutchmen by only giving up two hits and striking out a batter through his 25-pitch closing.
“I’m glad that I can help the team out in an important role,” Dianna said. “I have been progressing each start this year. This gives me a lot of faith in myself to keep it going and improving from here.”
The team is currently 9-11 overall and 6-3 in conference play. The baseball team will face the University of Scranton on Wednesday, April 1, at 5 p.m. The team’s next conference game will be against Stevens University on Friday, April 3, to keep its MAC playoff hopes alive.
