Being the president of two large on-campus organizations may sound like a daunting task, but to one it is an exciting opportunity.
Third-year early childhood education and special education dual major Mya Maloney balances a plethora of student activities. Most notably, Maloney is the president of both LVC’s student government and student programming board.
As the president of two of the most active organizations on campus, Maloney’s constantly exercising her leadership skills and looking for ways to grow herself both in her extra curriculars and her academics.
“Being involved on campus has allowed me to grow some of the leadership skills I already had,” Maloney said. “It’s also made me more confident in the classroom as a future teacher.”
During her time as president, she has already implemented policies that have fostered a welcoming environment for members of the organizations. Maloney ensures that everyone in the student government and student programming board feels a sense of belonging in and out of meetings.
“Having these experiences has given me the confidence to put myself out there and be a friendly face on campus for others,” Maloney said.
Maloney is not only involved in student government and student programming boards. She also is the vice president of both the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) and the Student Pennsylvania State Education Association (SPSEA).
Maloney also spent her summer studying abroad in Perugia, Italy, where she got to learn about education styles on an international level. She also came back to campus early to serve as one of the orientation leaders for the incoming class of 2029.
Although she may only be a junior, Maloney plans to continue to hold leadership roles throughout the remainder of her academic career.
“My experiences have led me to make amazing relationships with students, faculty and staff here on campus,” Maloney said. “I wouldn’t change it for anything.”
