The start of the ultimate frisbee season

Tournament season for LVC’s ultimate frisbee team is in full swing.

The Jammin’ Jackalopes travel to nearby universities to go head-to-head with other collegiate-level ultimate frisbee teams. The team’s goal is to play—and hopefully win—as many tournaments as possible.

“I like the energy,” Ryan Winters, ultimate frisbee club member and fourth-year physical therapy student, said. “Everyone is really into it, and it’s very competitive. It is way more fun when you’re playing it.”

LVC hosted the season’s first ultimate frisbee tournament back in September. The Jammin’ Jackalopes placed third overall. In round-robin style games, each team plays against each other, and point differentials and overall record determine team ranking.

At Wilkes University on Oct. 25, the Jammin’ Jackalopes took home first place. The next tournament will be held at Kutztown University on Saturday, Nov. 1. Students are encouraged to attend and cheer on the LVC team.

Although the tournaments are competitive, the club itself doesn’t have to be. Students who attend club meetings are not obligated to participate in tournaments.

“We’ll introduce the concepts of what we’ll run in tournaments, and then we’ll draft who wants to travel to tournaments,” explained Winters.

The club meets Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:45 p.m. on the practice field, and Sundays at 7 p.m. on the turf. Meetings are in both the fall and spring semesters.
