Jared Graeff once dreamed of the NBA — now he’s focused on leading his family’s four-generation pest control business.
Graeff, a senior majoring in business and marketing major, originally wanted to be a basketball player then an engineer. Jared’s dream to be an engineer stuck all the way up until his senior year when he finally decided to start looking and applying to colleges.
Jared started working during the summers at his family’s extermination business, Laudeman’s termite and pest Control, starting in summer of 2022. The business is based out of Minersville, PA, where Jared went to high school. This period of work seemed to have planted a seed in Jared’s mind.
With a small family business of only three workers, Jared thoroughly enjoyed his summers at the family’s business. This inclined Jared to take up a business and marketing major here at Lebanon Valley College.
Laudeman Termite and Pest Control was started in 1975 by his great grandfather. It is now owned and operated by his grandfather, George R Laudeman, and his aunt, Jen Laudeman.
“Jared reminds me of me when I was young, strong, stubborn, and a strong will to work.,” George said when asked about his grandson Jared’s new passion.
Fast forward four years and Jared is in his final year at LVC with his sights set on running the family business.
“The past four summers with the business have been awesome,” Jared said. “Being able to work with close family and friends is a blessing along with being able to work close to home.”
Graeff said he is excited to run this business and has hopes of expanding into new areas after graduation. Currently this semester he is completing his business internship with the family business, while also taking classes on campus.
