One student’s summer took her from classrooms in Europe to the marketing industry back home.

Zowie Zokuskie, a junior business administration and marketing major, split her summer
between studying abroad in the Netherlands and interning in the marketing field in Pennsylvania.

At Maastricht University, Zokuskie took courses alongside students from around the world,
gaining an international perspective on business and culture.

“Studying abroad was the best experience of my entire life,” Zokuskie said. “I gained knowledge about different cultures along with the opportunity to travel, having a new view on life.”

Back in Pennsylvania, she worked as a marketing intern with Pennsylvania Horsemen’s
Benevolent and Protective Association (HBPA) at Penn National Race Course. Her
responsibilities included managing social media accounts, planning events and helping with
hospitality efforts.

“This opportunity has allowed me to get my foot in the door with sports marketing, an industry that is so diverse,” Zokuskie said.

By combining global education with hands-on marketing experience, Zokuskie returned to
campus this fall with fresh skills and insights to guide her future.

“This entire summer has let me broaden my outlook of the world and workforce,” Zokuskie said. “It created so many opportunities that I am grateful for and can’t wait to see where my career takes me.”

Zokuskie will continue her internship at Penn National Race Course this fall and looks forward
to applying what she learned this summer to her future goals.
