Interim of impact

For the 2025-2026 academic year, Dr. Sarah Shupp has stepped into the role of Interim Vice President of Student Affairs at LVC.

With the departure of LVC’s former Vice President of Student Affairs, Bob Mikus, a new opportunity arose for Shupp. Having served as one of the deans for the College, Shupp already knew the ins and outs of the Student Affairs department.

This role has granted Shupp more opportunities to begin initiatives on campus. Shupp described how she aims to be a present figure on campus that works in tangent with the student population.

“We truly want to hear their feedback,” Shupp said. “I want to know what’s going right and what’s going wrong.”

To achieve this goal, Shupp has already begun the initiative to start committees to discuss two of the hot-button issues on campus, parking and dining. Shupp hopes to gain input from a wide range of students on campus to make positive changes on the campus.

“We want to bring as many voices to the table as we can,” Shupp said.

These committees will allow students to give sustained input on these topics and will introduce students to the ins and outs of the decision-making process at a college level.

Shupp also hopes to foster a welcoming environment for students, making everyone feel a sense of belonging at LVC.

“I would like to see students have more of a community and be friends to each other,” Shupp said. “I was a first-generation transfer commuter student who felt extremely isolated coming to college.”

Shupp also hopes that each student feels a connection with at least one staff or faculty member that they could go to in a time of need.

“There’s a lot of staff that are here for students,” Shupp said. “I hope [students] feel comfortable to come to us.”

To join one of the committees listed above, students can check their email giving more specific information on the process. Additionally, students are always encouraged to stop by Shupp’s office or reach out with any additional questions or suggestions.
