LVC’s men’s soccer is off to a hot start for the 2024 season.

The team was picked to finish second in the conference in a preseason poll behind the Ducks of Stevens Institute of Technology. LVC is currently sitting 3-1 and had an upset win to start the season against the 4th ranked team in the nation.

“Being able to beat the team ranked 4th in the nation (Washington College) has instilled a lot of confidence in the team moving forward,” Aaron Weitzel, a senior forward, said. “We have always known we have potential as a team but seeing that potential be realized against a great team will give us the confidence, we need to be successful this season.”

The team hopes to use this continued momentum building off last season as the Dutchmen finished second in the conference behind Stevens Institute of Technology.  But in years prior the Dutchmen faced challenges along the way.

“Overcoming adversity during my time at LVC has prepared me for this season,” Weitzel said. “Dealing with injuries and the wins and losses as a team has made us stronger. For me, all these moments have made me better prepared to take on anything that comes my way this season,” Weitzel said.

This mindset on top of “the seniors from last year coming back has made our dedication to win even greater for ourselves and our teammates,” Weitzel said.

This combination is creating a recipe for success for the team as the team continues to gain momentum for their upcoming games. Using their experience on the field is helping the team work together to outscore opponents.

Building off the hot start to the season will allow for the team to look forward and prepare to take on the new side of the MAC. The Dutchmen are seeking a conference tournament win and to upset the perennial powerhouse of the Stevens Ducks. Using the confidence, they are gaining with each win will allow for the team to reach great success in the coming weeks.
