The LVC chess club is the place for students of all skill levels looking to make connections, learn new skills and engage in friendly competition.
Since its founding as a probationary club in October, the club has quickly grown in popularity and has big plans looking forward.
“The big plans are expanding, officially becoming a club and getting a tournament started,” Eric Estes, chess club president, said.
After gaining full status, Estes hopes to host regular chess tournaments every spring. With 15 members and growing, chess club has fostered community among its members united by a common love for the game.
“Since starting here [at LVC], I really wanted to build connections,” John Gemmell, chess club treasurer, said.
Chess club plans to continue meeting weekly on Fridays at 5 p.m. in Clyde A. Lynch Memorial Hall room 189. Interested students are encouraged to reach out to ewe001@lvc.edu for more information.
