LVC students had the opportunity to take part in a long-standing tradition on campus.
The march to Kreiderheim occurred on Monday, Nov. 13, after the Dutchmen football team defeated rival opponent Albright College on Saturday, Nov. 11. In this tradition, students march to the president’s house to ask for the Wednesday before Thanksgiving Day off from classes when the football team wins this game.
Students gathered at the home stadium stands to begin the march, where the football team, cheer team and marching band led the way. Once everyone made it up the front lawn of President James MacLaren’s residence, the football team captains asked the question that was on every student’s mind.
“It gives me great pleasure to fulfill your request to let everyone have the Wednesday off,” MacLaren said.
Students were able to celebrate the good news by enjoying some hot chocolate and desserts on the front lawn as well.
With this win, the football team achieved its first winning season since 2013. It also earned a berth in the Centennial-MAC bowl series, where it will face off against Muhlenberg College in postseason fashion on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 12 p.m.
