Scholarship scope

At LVC, there are many opportunities in the form of external scholarships.

While scholarships are primarily used for university financial aid, scholarships exist for many career aspirations.

There are scholarships for varying growth opportunities. If a student is interested in learning a language not offered by LVC, they can pursue the Critical Language Scholarship (CLS). With CLS, students may take summer courses in languages such as Russian, Arabic or Chinese.

If prolonged study abroad interests students, there are various scholarships they may explore. The Mitchell scholarship program offers a year of post-graduate study in Ireland. The Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) funds undergraduate students who desire to study abroad for a semester or calendar year. The Fulbright Award presents opportunities to teach English, develop a research project or find higher education opportunities in a foreign country of one’s choice.

Many scholarship opportunities exist relating to studying abroad; however, some scholarships relate to specific areas of study.

Students studying the sciences and technology may be interested in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) undergraduate scholarship program, where students can be paid during the summer internship to undergo training and conduct research. The National Science Foundation Graduate Research fellowships offer a stipend for students to choose a school to conduct their research with for three years.

Political science and global affairs majors may be interested in programs such as the Payne, Thomas R. Pickering or Charles B. Rangel fellowship programs. Achieving a graduate degree in international relations or development to become a foreign service agent is a unique opportunity that few get to pursue.

More opportunities that cover all different points of interest can be found under academic resources on LVC’s website.

If a student is interested in a particular scholarship, they may consult Dr. Benesch, an associate professor of politics, who heads the external scholarships and fellowships as the faculty director.
