Inspiring change: Rev. Dr. Bernice A. King to speak about belonging

By Jess Benninger ’26, assistant editor

LVC will welcome Rev. Dr. Bernice A. King, daughter of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and CEO of the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change, to campus on Friday, Sept. 15, from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Frederic K. Miller Chapel.

King is a renowned lawyer, activist and minister. Her talk is a part of the Social Justice Lecture Series and is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission. King will speak about belonging, this year’s topic for the Symposium on Inclusive Excellence, and a 30-minute question and answer session will conclude the presentation.

Many students look forward to the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to learn from King, but others are most interested in how King’s presentation will spark change on campus.

“I really hope that her presentation has a big impact on LVC,” Abby Jordan, a senior psychology major, said. “Groups of us have been doing the work—meeting with administration and discussing changes a lot of students want to see—but we have not seen a lot of results. I am hopeful that her talk will inspire students, faculty and staff to make change on LVC’s campus.”

Students, faculty and staff can register using this link. The deadline to register for this incredible event is Friday, Sept. 8 at 11:59 p.m.
