This term, the LVC ASL Club has been active on campus, hosting a variety of activities and events to promote the American Sign Language community.

One of the clubs’ biggest achievements this semester was attracting the interest of numerous potential students through their involvement in LVC Live. Members of the group demonstrated their abilities and raised awareness of the value of ASL throughout campus.

The club’s first fundraiser occurred in February when members sold candy grams imprinted with the ASL sign for “I love you” to generate money for club events.

“Thanks to the staff and student support, the project was successful and raised over $100,” Mia Diebert, junior speech-language pathology major and president of the ASL Club, said.

The club also welcomed an interpreter as a guest speaker who offered insightful knowledge about interpreting and her own experiences dealing with various individuals. Members gained knowledge of the interpreting industry and the difficulties encountered by interpreters as a result.

“In addition to these activities, we are also ordering new club shirts, which will aid in promoting the club’s purpose”, Diebert said.
