Weekend roundup: men’s and women’s hockey

It was a bittersweet night for the seniors on the LVC men’s hockey team, as they won their Senior Night game with a 4-3 victory over the Alvernia Golden Wolves, but laced up their skates for the last time as Dutchmen.

The team not only outshot the Golden Wolves on the night, but also only allowed five total shots on five separate penalty kill opportunities.

Senior Brad Viola led the team with one goal and two assists, while Eric Malcarney chipped in his first career goal as a Dutchman! It was a fitting end to a season full of adversity, as the team pulled together and won it for each other.

The women’s hockey team battled Wilkes University and came out on top, landing them a spot in the UCHC Quarterfinals this Wednesday Feb. 22.

Katie Pounder scored yet another game winning goal, as she sent the Dutchmen up by one on the powerplay with just over a minute left on the clock.

After beating Wilkes by a score of 3-2, the team prepares to take on the Utica Pioneers at the Utica University Nexus Center. Wish the Dutchmen luck as they head into the UCHC Tournament as the seventh ranked seed!
