Feeling stuck on campus

Every now and then, LVC students might grow tired of walking around the same sidewalks and into the same buildings for class each week.

It’s important to remember to switch things up when facing burnout from school, social life, etc. and one of the easiest ways of accomplishing this can be by changing one’s surroundings.

As an LVC student, there is almost a guarantee that the Peace Garden has crossed one’s radar at some point, but what about the other opportunities to experience the outdoors near campus?

“I wish that there were more places to go that are near LVC,” Sam Long, a senior computer and data science major, said. “It’s always nice to find somewhere nice to be able to go to that doesn’t cost anything either.”

A close-to-campus option for students without a car, is the Quittie Creek Nature Park, located across Main Street from LVC’s campus. Here students will find more of a walking trail than a park, but nonetheless, the Quittie serves as an adequate place to walk along the water and clear your mind during a stressful school day.

Less than a 10-minute drive away from LVC is the Union Canal Tunnel Park, a great option for those with access to a car or transportation on campus.

Here, students can find a multitude of trails and paths to follow, complete with bike racks on either end of the canal, no entry fee and a pavilion to sit, rest or potentially do work under. One can even take a narrated boat tour as part of the Union Canal Days, hosted at the end of May each year.

Even something as simple as taking a walk around campus or taking a minute to sit at a table in a favorite building, can make all the difference in boosting a student’s mood.

No matter how an LVC student chooses to avoid burnout, it is important for them to remember that they have options when it comes to changing up their surroundings.
