LVC Choirs to perform annual Homecoming recital

By Carter Kucier ’23, Staff Writer

As LVC’s annual Homecoming draws near, the LVC choirs are putting the finishing touches on the annual LVC Homecoming concert. Every year, all three choirs begin working on music on the first day of the semester in order to be ready for this yearly tradition.

This concert will feature the college choir under the leadership of a new director, Professor Tyler Canonico. Canonico is an LVC alumni, and he also serves as the minister of music for the Market Square Presbyterian Church, working to direct its choirs and provide music for services. Rehearsals have shown a promising deal of progress under his guidance.

“I am excited to be conducting the College Choir this fall for our first concert of the season, the Homecoming Concert,” Canonico said. “Personally – being an alum – it’s the perfect concert to make my debut.”

Canonico detailed the college choir portion of the concert.

“The College Choir has some exciting repertoire planned,” Canonico said. “We’ll open our portion of the concert with a rousing South African number, we’ll then sing a calm and beautiful work by Elaine Hagenberg, and then finish with the rousing “‘There’s Gonna be a Homecomin.’

The additional choirs, as well as two pieces that will be sung by all members of every choir together, will be under the direction of Dr. Kyle Zeuch, music department co-chair and director of choral activities. Zeuch has worked the past few years to shape the choir program into one with strong integrity and a deeper presence on campus, as well as to create traditions that can be passed down to each new choir generation here at LVC.

The concert will take place in Miller Chapel, making use of the resonant acoustics such a wide, open space provides. It will feature sets from each choir individually, as well as two combined choir pieces. Many returning LVC alumni attend this concert each year, especially returning music majors and past choir members. All are welcome to attend this concert on Sunday, Oct. 16, at 3 p.m.
