It’s never too late to celebrate a history-making season. The baseball team knows that best.
On May 14, 2022, the LVC baseball team was crowned Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth (MACC) Champions after defeating York College of Pennsylvania in a three-game series.
The 2022 team finished its season with 30 wins, a record for the program. This was the program’s first championship title in 20 years, and only the second title in program history.
This win, however, came at the end of the school year, leaving only a small amount of the LVC community on campus as the team began and finished its championship run.
Just over four months later, friends and family of the LVC baseball team gathered to watch as the team received a proper celebration for their history-making season.
With a group effort from parents and the coaching staff, everyone involved in the 2022 championship season was honored at a team scrimmage on Sunday, Sept. 25.
Head coach Jonas Fester spoke a few words about the team’s success, followed by words from a parent thanking the coaches for their time and dedication.
Shortly after, each player was recognized and received a gift to remember the season: a customized MAC championship hoodie, as well as a small engraved plaque.
Much to the players’ surprise, the team was gifted a 2022 MAC Champions flag to be hung on the flagpole at McGill Field.
The team, including Ryan Pickle, a junior pitcher, was thrilled to be part of the raising and to see the flag hanging up.
“It was great that we could celebrate last year’s successful season,” Pickle said. “The flag will remind us every time we’re on the field of what we accomplished. It will also remind all of our opponents of our successful season.”
Wrapping up a short fall season of intersquad scrimmages, the baseball team is already preparing to get another championship win during the 2023 season. Returning several starters and a talented freshman class, hopefully the team will be raising another flag next May.
