Senior Justin Schuetz was named MAC Commonwealth Tennis Player of the Week.

During the week of April 4, Schuetz went 4-0 in both singles and doubles. Schuetz’s effort helped lead the team to a historical win over defending conference champion, Stevenson University on April 10. The Dutchmen’s win was Stevenson’s first conference lost since 2018.

“It felt great to beat Stevenson because that was a goal that all of us worked really hard to achieve,” Schuetz said.

In his singles match, Schuetz won 6-2, 6-0 over Mustangs’ Ben Porto. Schuetz and Adam Warren also defeated the Mustangs’ top doubles pair.

Schuetz likewise contributed to the Dutchmen’s dominating 8-1 victory over Alvernia University, winning his doubles and singles matches. The senior has won his last six singles and six doubles matches.

“Everyone on the team is playing really great tennis right now,” Schuetz said. “A lot of guys on the team deserve Player of the Week.”

Multiple Dutchmen have received the honor this season including Nicole Honrade, Jeffrey Bauer, Brady McLucas, Brendan Byler and Eliana Shenk.

During his freshman year campaign, Schuetz went 18-3 in singles and earned MAC Commonwealth Rookie of the Year and First Team All-Conference.

The tennis team competes on Wednesday, April 20, at 3:30 p.m. against Eastern University. The match is at home.
