New business opportunities on the horizon

The business department at LVC is looking to expand its fields of study for the future.

Currently, the business department only has four majors and four minors offered at LVC. With input coming from both students and employers, LVC is looking to expand its fields of studies by proposing three new minors to their department in the upcoming years. These three new minors that are being considered are marketing, business analytics and sports management.

“A lot of employers in our area are asking for students to have a higher understanding of business analytics with more exposure and understanding,” Dr. Treva Clark, chair and associate professor and director of graduate programs in business, said. “The marketing minor is more in response to student requests.”

In order to support these new programs, LVC is looking to hire two new faculty members to help teach courses required for these new minors.

The process of considering the new programs has already gone underway, with marketing in the lead. The business department is hoping to offer marketing as a minor in the near future with business analytics as a minor following close behind.

With this expansion of the business department, Clark is hoping that these additions will bring the field of business to the next level at LVC, making it a more attractive and expansive field of study.

“We [department of business] are growing so fast,” Clark said. “It’s really encouraging that more and more students are looking at business, not as just a fallback major, but as a major that opens up so many opportunities.” For information regarding the business department at LVC, go to https://www.lvc.edu/academics/undergraduate-studies/
