The baseball team had a successful weekend, winning all three of its games at McGill Field.
On Saturday, March 19, the team played Susquehanna University and won an exciting game with a final score of 3-2. During the game, Kyle Kingsbury, a senior captain and pitcher, broke LVC’s career strikeout record. He ended the game with nine strikeouts and 182 career strikeouts.
The team then took on Vassar College in a doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. The Dutchmen won the first game 6-4, scoring four runs in the sixth inning. The Dutchmen came back after being down two runs.
“Each game we played was a battle until the very end,” Nico Santoro, a junior infielder, said. “Every time our opponent fought to put runs on the board we fought back harder the next inning.”
Later that day, the Dutchmen took the second game against the Brewers in ten innings. Tied 5-5 after the ninth, Vassar College took a 6-5 lead in the top of the tenth. LVC responded with two walks to score the tying and winning runs.
“We have a lot of heart and grit on this team which keeps us in every game,” Santoro said. “We are a very talented team and exciting to watch.”
The Dutchmen play Elizabethtown College on Wednesday, March 23, at 3:30 p.m. at home on McGill Field. The team has another home game the following day, Thursday, March 23, at 3:30 p.m.
