Day of Philanthropy at LVC celebrated its ten-year anniversary Thursday, Nov. 11.

Day of Philanthropy is a 24-hour period where friends, family, alumni, students and staff can donate money to a sport, a club, an academic department or a scholarship fund to help future students.

This year there were 1,606 donors, which was 106 donors over the main goal of 1,500 donors. The Valley Fund led with 221 donors, with the baseball team not too far behind with 124 donors. Day of Philanthropy’s final donation total was $212,959.

Alyssa Peiffer, a junior dual sport athlete for women’s soccer and track and field, talked about what the donations for her respective sports will go to.

“For track, we are using the money raised for the extra week when we come back early for winter break,” Peiffer said. “The money will be used for team bonding and other activities during that week and getting new warm-up pants. For soccer, the money raised will be used for new training goals and other equipment and gear.”

LVC plans to continue this success into future Day of Philanthropy events.
