Student engagement opportunities at LVC

By Jordan Walter ’24 staff writer

LVC hosts many opportunities for students to get involved in service projects both on and off-campus.

For the fall, LVC is offering several service opportunities to get involved. These opportunities include volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, American Foundation for Children with AIDS, Dutchmen Serve and service trips.

Habitat for Humanity is partnering with LVC to help rebuild three homes in Lebanon. Dates to sign up have been published on Redbook.

LVC supports the American Foundation for Children with AIDS by preparing supplies sent to children affected with AIDS in sub-Saharan Africa. Volunteering opportunities for AFCA are held every first Saturday of the month.

Twice every month, Dutchmen Serve invites a speaker or spokesman to talk to the student body about raising awareness for needs in the Lebanon community.

LVC also holds nights of service every week throughout the semester where students can work on service projects.

There will also be two service trips in the spring semester. From Jan. 10-14, there will be a virtual partnership with Bolivia, discussing human rights issues. Also, from March 6-11, students will be sent to Pittsburgh to help with issues of poverty in urban neighborhoods with a stress on food insecurity and gentrification. The deadline to sign up is Nov. 1.
