Changes to public safety

LVC’s public safety office looks completely different, and it starts with its supervisor.

Brent Oberholtzer resigned at the start of the semester to take a job in Florida; Brian Boyer was named LVC’s main public safety supervisor.

“I have been the supervisor here for 13 years, mostly in the evenings and Brent was here during the day,” Boyer said.

Boyer described his role on campus.

“I respond to campus emergencies, investigating reports of student conduct or Pennsylvania violations, participate in student conduct meetings, traffic flow and parking planning for all campus events, schedule and conduct training classes, enforcement of parking,” Boyer said.

As of now, the public safety office has four part-time officers, one which has just been hired. There are five on staff and is actively searching for another full-time officer to fill the vacant position.

“The new hire has greatly benefited our office moving forward,” Boyer said. “We are all working overtime, but I don’t mind it. I like working here and everyone in Public Safety loves working at LVC.”

Boyer plans to continue doing Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter and Evacuate (ALICE) and Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) training like Oberholtzer did in the past. The office is currently working on plans for holding the yearly R.A.D. class in the spring semester.

“I am also scheduling several development training classes for the Public Safety staff,” he said. “These courses will provide the knowledge to better respond to the emergencies we receive while performing duties.”

The public safety department is looking to hire students to work in the office and at weekend events. If students are interested in an on-campus job, contact Brian Boyer by email at bboyer@lvc.edu,  stop by the office or apply on Handshake.
