How student life has changed due to COVID-19

At the start of the academic year, LVC put in new rules and guidelines to prevent the spread of COVID-19. With all the changes occurring, how is this affecting students’ lives?

Dre Burch, a senior criminal justice and football player, discusses how this year has been different from the past.

“Things are a lot stricter this year,” Burch said. “There is a limited amount of people that can sit at tables in the cafeteria and arrows you have to follow to get what you need. You can’t really sit with all your friends and that’s a disappointment because last year we would almost try to squeeze 10 people into a table at a time.”

Changes have also occurred in the classroom which has left Burch and other students feeling different as well.

“The classes are all split up between Zoom and in-person classes,” Burch said. “Some days I have Zoom classes and other days it is in person so it kind of gets confusing sometimes. We never really had to deal with years prior.”

With Burch being an athlete and frequently using the LVC weight room and training facilities, he gives us a look at how that has changed as well.

“Everything is structured to remain distant,” Burch added. “There is a limited number of people allowed in the weight room at a time and everything is more spread out. In addition to this, there is a signup sheet you need to fill out to work out in the arena. Hopefully, things eventually get normal so we can go back to how school was and felt before.”

LVC continues to remain socially distancing and requiring the rules and guidelines that they put in place at the beginning of the academic year.

(Update: LVC now offers full in-person classes, the arrows have been removed around campus and there are no longer glass dividers in the cafeteria.)
