Valerie Kosson, ’21, elected to take classes fully online this semester despite her roommates’ return to campus.
Though she discussed how she missed her friends and wished she could be studying with them this semester, she mentioned that the new protocols on campus would cause her unnecessary stress. Having to adapt to all the changes alongside getting used to classes and dealing with her busy schedule as a music major would be too much to handle in already chaotic times.
In preparation for the fall semester, Kosson adapted her former childhood playroom into a study and performance space. In addition to her desk and school supplies, the room now houses musical instruments including drums and a keyboard.
“When I made the decision, it was not clear exactly what the protocols on campus would be and how many students would be coming back,” Kosson, a senior music and wellness major, said. “I didn’t want to risk catching the virus… and putting my professors and friends at risk. “[However,] it is a lot quieter in my house, and I can concentrate here very well.”
Kosson keeps in touch with her roommates regularly and they keep her updated on campus activities despite her being fully online.
