LVC Athletics weekend recap

On a weekend where five of LVC’s athletic teams traveled off campus to play away games, the Dutchmen managed to come home Saturday night with a combined record of 3-3.

LVC Women’s Soccer traveled to Grantham, PA to square off against No. 2 Messiah College at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday. Unfortunately, the Dutchmen were overpowered by the Falcons in a 6-1 loss in which LVC was outshot by a total of 17-5. LVC’s lone goal of the contest was scored in the second half by Lindsey Topper, who picked up her second goal of the season. After the loss to Messiah, LVC’s record now sits at 4-9 (1-4 conference). The Dutchmen will be looking to bounce back on Wednesday, Oct. 23 as they have a home game at 4 PM against a struggling 3-10 (0-3 conference) Alvernia University team.

LVC Men’s Soccer also traveled to Grantham, PA to square off against a No. 18 Messiah College Falcons squad at 6 p.m. on Saturday. After a total of only nine combined shots on goal between LVC and Messiah, the Dutchmen ultimately fell short, losing the defensive battle by a final score of 1-0. The Dutchmen, now 6-7-2 (2-2-1 conference), will face the Alvernia University Golden Wolves (3-10-2) (2-1-0 conference) in a home contest tomorrow, Tuesday, Oct. 22, at 3:30 p.m.

LVC Volleyball had the longest trip of the weekend, as the team traveled to Virginia for a tri-match held at Marymount University. In the first matchup at 4PM on Saturday, the Dutchmen faced Marywood University and routed the Pacers by a final score of 3-0 (25-12, 25-15, 25-9). In the second game of the tri-match, LVC faced Marymount University at 6 PM. LVC did not fare as well in their second match of the day, falling to the Saints by a score of 3-1 (12-25, 22-25, 28-26, 18-25). The two games played by LVC Volleyball on Saturday officially moved their record to 13-11 (3-2 conference). The Dutchmen are set to face Widener University on Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. in Chester, PA. The Widener University Pride have been struggling as of late with an overall record of 7-18 (2-3 conference) and a current losing streak of three games. The Dutchmen will be looking to capitalize and pick up win number 14 on the year.

LVC Field Hockey traveled to Owings Mills, Maryland on Saturday night to play against Stevenson University at 7:30 p.m. The Dutchmen capitalized on momentum gained from recent success and blanked the Mustangs by a final score of 5-0. Junior Cecile Kat netted two goals in the contest, bringing her goal total on the year up to 14. The other three Dutchmen goals were scored by sophomore Danielle Alba, freshman Ashlee Sheibley, and senior Hannah Simon. Additionally, Ashlee Sheibley assisted on two LVC goals, and junior Taylor Pentz racked up three assists on the night. LVC Field Hockey has been looking great as of late. To go along with a 9-5 (4-0 conference) record, the Dutchmen are on a seven-game win streak that they hope to extend to eight when they travel to Grantham, PA on Wednesday, Oct. 23 to take on Messiah College at 7 p.m.
