AST puts the community service into Halloween

Alpha Sigma Tau (AST) will be doing a different kind of trick-or-treating as one of its fall community service projects this Halloween night.

The sisters of AST will be trick-or-treating on the evening of Oct. 31, in the surrounding neighborhoods of Lebanon County, however, instead of asking for candy, they will be collecting canned goods. The canned goods will then be counted, transported and donated to the Caring Cupboard, a local food bank in the Palmyra area that supports food-insecure families. The sisters will then help the staff at the food bank sort the canned goods.

Trick-or-Treat for Canned Goods has been one of AST’s fall community service projects for over 20 years and is one of the many ways that the sorority gives back to their community. Many locals in the surrounding communities expect to see AST sisters at their door on Halloween night and will have canned goods already in their home to donate.

Last year AST collected a total of 663 non-perishable canned goods. This year the sorority hopes to exceed that total and collect around 700 canned goods.

If you have any non-perishable canned items to donate for this event, contact AST’s director of philanthropy, Lizzy Ramsey at egr001@lvc.edu before Oct. 31.
