The LVC’s Women’s ice hockey team is preparing for a fresh start for the 2019-2020 season.

The team has been preparing since August through on and off-ice team workouts. Throughout the summer, Head Coach Matt Yingst made new additions to the roster by recruiting seven freshmen. The team begins practice next week, Oct. 14.

“We dialed in this summer with training more than any of the previous years in our program history,” Jill Moffat, senior and team captain, said. “The team’s dedication to our summer workouts is showing a lot in our practices, and we’re excited to start the regular season and make new strides as a program.”

The women open their season against Post University on Friday, Nov. 1, at home at Hershey Park Arena with a second home game following on Saturday, Nov. 2 at HPA.

Preparation for the season began when they ended their season in the spring. Throughout summer, workouts were assigned for returners and newcomers to follow and strengthen their skills.

“I’m looking forward to starting my senior year with a great incoming freshman class and new divisions within the UCHC which will help us better our program for the future,” Rachel Havrylkoff, senior and education major, said. “Our first practice will be an exciting start to a season that is filled with strength, dedication and hard work.”

WIH looks to begin the season on a positive outlook as they split opening weekend with Post University just one season ago. Ten upperclassmen lead the way this season. WIH is excited to start the season with the opportunity to change the face of this program on Nov. 1, at HPA. Come support WIH as they look to capture a W in front of the home crowd.
