LVC’s College Democrats hosted ‘Rock The Vote’ on Thursday, Nov. 1, where students and local residents gathered with local politicians to discuss the upcoming midterm elections and the importance of this year’s voter turnout.
‘Rock The Vote’ is the first event of its kind for the College Democrats and will lead into the 2018 midterm elections, where attendees like candidates Denny Wolff, Lois Herr and Cesar Liriano are on the ballot.
Wolff, the former Secretary of Agriculture for Pennsylvania, stressed the importance of voting in every possible election.
“I was one of those people who didn’t get involved in politics until later in life,” Wolff, the 9th Congressional District candidate, said. “It’s so important that you get involved. We need a variety of people at the table who understand issues that the people currently face.”
Herr was excited to talk at LVC and has close ties with the college from a young age, because her mother and grandmother both graduating in the 1920s.
“I feel at home here,” she said.
With the midterm elections around the corner, Democrats could potentially re-color Pennsylvania blue this year.
“The next few elections could be the biggest elections of our entire lives,” Kylee Petritsch, president of the College Democrats, said. “I’m asking you to go and vote.”
The College Democrats will host March To The Polls on Tuesday, Nov. 6 and will walk to Annville Church-Brethren to vote on Election Day. The walk starts at 11 a.m. in front of Mund and students are welcome to attend.
