LVC’s community was eager to celebrate the traditional Trick or Treat celebration of the Pumpkin Walk with local children around Annville.
The Pumpkin Walk was a two-hour annual Halloween event started by LVC’s professors in the early 1980s, which takes place at the Quittie Creek Nature Park. The walk winds its way along the creek with numerous lighting decorations including pumpkins and welcomes children age 2-15 as they participate in activities from tables of LVC’s clubs.
This year, the walk was held on Friday, Oct. 26, with 13 clubs from LVC organizing creative crafts and treats for children. Global Education Club, that volunteered in the Walk for many years, decided to distribute candies from Asia and helped children make international candy goodies bag so they could try exotic candy flavors from foreign countries.
“It’s a lot of fun” Ashlee Leamont, sophomore Vice President of Global Education Club, said. “It’s a good way for club members to bond while also interacting with the community.”
This activity strengthened the relationship between the LVC community and local residents as students have the opportunity to contribute more to society through social work.
“The Pumpkin Walk is a great way for LVC students to interact with the community and give back,” Elizabeth Drda, a senior member of LVC’s Biology Club, said. “The event enhances our relationship with the locals by letting them meet us and seeing what LVC students do outside of academics.”
The 2018 Pumpkin Walk was found to be successful as LVC’s students greeted children and families with colorful treats and engaging activities.
