Hair cut for cancer

Students help women with cancer regain their confidence during Lebanon Valley College’s annual Relay For Life.

Many women experience hair loss from cancer and search for the perfect wig. At Relay For Life, students will have the opportunity to cut and donate their hair. After the hair cutting ceremony, all donations will be sent to Pantene Beautiful Lengths to create high-quality wigs.

“Last year, we had one of the largest number of participants to date,” Jennifer Evans, director of student activities, said. “Around 15 students donated their hair.”

Those taking part in the ceremony should make sure they meet the donation requirements. All donations must be at least eight inches and free of dyes, bleaches and chemicals.

“Some students start growing out their hair with this event in mind,” Evans said. “It’s something they think about and talk about for months leading up to Relay.”

Before attending the hair cutting ceremony, students are encouraged to come with clean and dry hair.

“We’d like to get at least 15 or more donations to meet or exceed the number from last year,” Evans said.

The hair cutting ceremony will take place in the Arnold Sports Center Arena on Friday, March 23, at 7:30 p.m. Students should sign up on Redbook before attending.
