The Lebanon Valley College track and field team is looking to build off of its success during the indoor season.
The team is currently training in preparation for the outdoor season. Expectations are high for the Dutchmen and the team is specifically looking for big contributions from Olivia Jendrzejewski, Lauren Decker, Terrence Habiyaremye and Ian McGinnis. They had a great deal of success throughout the indoor season, specifically at the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) and Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) championships.
Jendrzejewski was named an all-american during the indoor season after placing third in the high jump at the NCAA DIII Championship. In addition to Jendrzejewski, Decker and Habiyaremye earned all-region honors for their efforts during the indoor season.
The Dutchmen hope to continue their strong performance throughout the outdoor season.
“Indoor is a good preparation for our outdoor season and we get a few weeks in between to really push ourselves before meets start,” Katie Goldsmith, a sophomore sprinter, said. “We are all really anxious to see where we are at.”
“We are working very hard,” Blake Lutz, a junior hurdler and sprinter, said. “The end goal is to compete for a Middle Atlantic Conference championship this spring as a team.”
Lutz, who was the MAC champion in the decathlon last year, is recovering from an ACL tear in the fall, but hopes to contribute to the team’s success this spring.
“My goal is to complete my recovery and then begin to build off of the momentum from the end of last year,” Lutz said.
The team opened competition for the spring season at the Millersville Metrics event on April 1. They will also compete at the renowned Penn Relays held at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia on April 27 and 28. All of the competition and events will culminate with the MAC championships at DeSales University on May 4-6.
