The LVC men’s basketball team used a dominant second half to defeat conference foe Misericordia Wednesday night in Sorrentino Gymnasium.

Starting as a back-and-forth affair, teams traded baskets for most of the first half. Each team had a handful of runs, but the Dutchmen and Cougars went to the locker room at halftime with the score knotted at 42.

The Dutchmen picked up the energy out of the locker room with a 21-4 scoring run in the first 10 minutes of the second half, and this energy started on the defensive end. LVC forced the Cougars into 12 of their total 18 turnovers in the second half.

LVC outscored Misericordia in the second half 44-25. The Cougars had no answer for anything the Dutchmen threw at them in the second half, which pushed LVC to victory.

Junior Tyson Hofsass led the team with a career-high 23 points in the victory. Graduate student Luis Garcia and junior Ryan Harder dominated the glass with nine and eight rebounds, respectively.

The Dutchmen picked up their fourth conference win and pushed its overall record to 6-14.

With the season concluding soon, LVC finds itself on the outside looking in on the four-team conference tournament. The team is currently in fifth place in the conference, one game behind Arcadia.

The Dutchmen will hit the road to face Delaware Valley on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 3 p.m.
