As the spring semester begins, it is important to call attention to the counseling resources available to students.

A recent report from TimelyMD showed that about 88% of students believe that there is a mental health crisis on campuses nationwide, and around 60% said that they intend to seek support for their mental health.

Students are not alone in these situations, as there are several ways to combat anxiety, depression, and other mental health crises.

Mental health counselors and peer supporters can aid students that are suffering from anxiety, depression, adjustment to college, sexual assault, relationship problems, eating disorders, and more.

5050 Peer Helpers are trained and supervised by LVC professional counselors. Students are able to attend one-on-one meetings privately or attend support group sessions called “Friendly Faces”. These group sessions meet each Saturday and Sunday at 6 p.m.

The 5050 Peer Helpers for 2022-23 are Kyle Echterling ’23, Molly Faron ’23, Andrew Kalmonowicz ’24, and Johnã Wetzel ’24. To schedule an appointment with a Peer Helper, students can email 5050@lvc.edu or attend their designated appointment times at the Shroyer Health Center which can be found online on the peer support resources page.

An appointment with a licensed counselor can be requested through an appointment form or by calling 717-867-6232. Although, it is strongly encouraged to take advantage of drop-in hours that are available every weekday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in person in Bishop Library, 2nd floor. This gives students the opportunity to receive help as soon as possible.

There is no charge for these services for full-time students and counselors are here to help students as best as possible. Students are encouraged to utilize these services if they are feeling any type of mental distress.
