It’s been an exciting time to be a Dutchmen athletics fan as the fall sports at LVC wrap up their seasons.
During the fall season, there are seven in-season sports that compete, four of which have finished their seasons – field hockey, volleyball and men’s and women’s soccer. Dutchmen football, along with men’s and women’s cross country, are not yet done.
The field hockey team competed in 17 games, ending the season on Oct. 26 with a record of 7-10. The team got some key conference wins, finishing up at 3-5 in conference play.
Volleyball was able to finish their 2022 season with a winning record of 16-9 overall, going 4-4 in conference play. This record gave them the opportunity to compete in MACC Championships as the number five seed, where they fell to Messiah University in three sets.
“This year we had a lot of growth and success throughout the team. We had a great season and were proud to make it to the MACC playoffs,” Maddy Kreider, a serving specialist, said.
The men’s soccer team had a hard fought and competitive season, but ultimately fell short to several strong teams. The team went 7-9-2 overall, 2-4-2 in MAC Commonwealth.
Women’s soccer had one of the best records of the fall sports teams, going 6-7-4, but an impressive 5-2-1 in the conference. They found themselves in the MAC Commonwealth semifinals, where they lost to York College of Pennsylvania.
“We had a great season and made a lot of improvements that are really promising for the future of the program,” Lauren Weaver, a junior defender, said.
Both football and cross country are still waiting to wrap up their seasons, each with one contest left on Nov. 12. For football, this contest is the biggest rivalry of the season and determines if students receive an extra day off of Thanksgiving break.
Next up, Dutchmen fans can hope for an exciting season of winter sports.
