The women’s field hockey team improved its record of 5-4 Thursday, Sept. 27, edging out the Immaculata Mighty Macs 3-2 in the rain.
In the first three minutes of the game, scoring opened with goals by sophomore forwards Cecile Kat and Taylor Pentz. The two goals went unanswered for 56 minutes until Immaculata scored in the second half with 11 minutes remaining.
The game was highlighted by defenseman Alida Steenmaker, who set the single game record for defensive saves with seven.
With her help, she and the rest of the team held off the Mighty Macs chances of scoring and propelled LVC to outshoot Immaculata, 22 to six.
With five minutes left in the game, Kat scored a second time to make the score 3-1, however her goal was answered two minutes later by Immaculata, which proved to be the last goal of the game.
The Dutchmen are back in action at home on Wednesday, Oct. 3, against Lancaster Bible College at 6 p.m.
