Where are they now: Charlie McCormick

By Nathan Kimball ’27, staff writer

For former LVC men’s soccer captain Charlie McCormick '24, the lessons he learned on the pitch continue to shape his life and career after graduation.

McCormick is currently an Analyst II at Tecolote Research on the Cost Assessment Data Enterprise team, where he supports the Department of Defense. A typical workday includes meetings with clients and coworkers, completing data validations, reviewing cost and software data reporting plans, and analyzing cost, schedule and performance metrics.

“Life after college can feel overwhelming, however, being a student-athlete helped prepare me because it taught me how to manage my time, communicate effectively and have self-discipline,” McCormick said. “I use these skills every day to be the best version of myself around my colleagues in the office as well as with my friends outside the office.”

McCormick’s shift into the workforce began before graduating. He attended LVC’s career fair and earned actuarial summer internships in his junior and senior years. After graduation, he used tools such as LinkedIn and Handshake to search for positions and connect with professionals before attaining his first full-time job at bet365 and later moving to his current role at Tecolote Research. His experience as a captain on the soccer team also taught him the importance of discipline, accountability, leadership and building strong relationships with teammates and coworkers.

“I view the office as the soccer field and I view my co-workers as my teammates,” McCormick said. “When problems arise during a project, the team takes on the challenge and works together to accomplish the project.”

As McCormick continues to build his career after LVC, he utilizes the lessons he learned as a student-athlete. He encourages current LVC student-athletes to stay active after graduation, maintain relationships and not be afraid to take risks as they begin the next chapter of their lives.
