Over 31 years ago Keith Adams and the LVC Flying Dutchmen men’s basketball team did the unthinkable.
The small-school LVC team upset the favored New York University in the NCAA Division 3 men’s national basketball championship. Adams was a junior shooting guard on the team who remembers every detail like the game was played yesterday.
In the 1994-95 season Adams and the Flying Dutchmen went on a historical run, making many upsets along their journey to the title.
The night of the championship, LVC went on to win in overtime with a final score of 66-59. LVC was the smallest school to win a national championship in division 3 basketball and still holds that title to date.
“It was awesome,” Adams said. “The feeling after winning the championship is something that I will never forget.”
Adams talked about how championships were not the only thing he took away from LVC, but also countless friendships.
“I still talk to the guys regularly and am still very close with them,” Adams said. “Basketball not only has given me great memories but also lifelong friends.”
After Adams graduated in 1995 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration, he went on to work for GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), which is the company he still works for today. Adams also has two children who attended LVC who chose to follow in his footsteps at the valley.
