The long-standing holiday tradition, Christmas at The Valley, will return this year in full swing.
Christmas at The Valley is the annual Christmas concert put on by the LVC music department. Although the concert predominantly features LVC’s three choirs, there are a number of other ensembles and musicians who are also a part of the event, including the Organ Guild and the Handbell Choir.
For the past few years, this recital has been unable to be performed at full capacity and potential due to COVID restrictions. In the fall of 2020, the entire recital was recorded, edited and compiled into a big video that viewers could watch online from home.
This year will be the first time since fall of 2019 that Christmas at The Valley will be unfolding normally, and all of the musicians involved have been hard at work all semester in preparation.
Although many things about Christmas at The Valley, such as song selection and ensemble roster, change each year, the recital features staple proceedings such as singing carols during transitional moments of the recital. These carols involve the entire congregation singing together, and Dr. Moorman-Stahlman, director of the LVC Organ Guild and Handbell Choir, playing the tunes on the organ in Miller Chapel.
This recital will feature pieces performed by individual groups, as well as combined group pieces. Christmas at the Valley always concludes with silent night, a candlelight vigil and song, and “The Lord Bless You and Keep You,” the song LVC choirs perform as their signature closing piece to all performances.
With college choir under the direction of Professor Canonico, and both concert and chamber choir under the direction of Dr. Zeuch, and the combined hard work and talent of all involved, this recital aims to be a continuation of a long standing LVC tradition; one that brings the community here at LVC together each year. It is absolutely a sight to behold, and all are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
Interested persons will be able to attend the recital in person on Dec. 3, 2022, in Miller Chapel at 7 p.m., or Dec. 4, 2022, in Miller Chapel at 3 p.m., or through livestream via the LVC Music Department Facebook page at those same times or any time after the performances through the video archive.
