The English department is rebranding its Brown Bag talks to the New Works series for the upcoming school year.

Students in the English major previously had the option of giving a presentation to faculty and fellow students on any interdisciplinary research that interested him or her. Starting this year, students will instead be able to speak about their personal experiences with research and how the major contributed to their understanding of what they learned.

“The New Works series is an awesome way to talk about your experiences with your peers and the English professors,” Huntre Keip, a senior English and politics major, said. “The series will allow me to tell them about my summer internship, and I would not have been able to complete it without the skills they all taught me.”

Keip will be the first student in the major to speak for the New Works series. Along with the talk, there will be an accompanying PowerPoint presentation illustrating her experience interning at the Times News.

“It’s a way to say ‘thank you’ in a visual and communicative way,” she said.

The New Works series is held on select Wednesdays each month from 12 to 1 p.m. Each talk is held in the Frock Conference Room in the Bishop Library.
