While supporting an inclusive environment is an integral part of LVC’s mission, an upcoming club aims to further promote this goal.
The diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) club is a recently formed group on campus led by Athena Vinson, who is a diversity, equity and inclusion fellow at LVC. The club is currently in probationary status but will be promoted to full club status after its two-month mark.
“What we really want to accomplish with the club is a stronger community on LVC’s campus that is dedicated to mutual growth and learning through dialogue,” Vinson, a senior English and social justice and civic engagement double major, said.
The club is advised by Dr. Catherine Romagnolo, a professor of English and the director of the social justice and civic engagement program at LVC.
“Like Athena, I believe that the strength of the group is in its commitment to building community and facilitating dialogue among all students at LVC,” Romagnolo said. “Fostering dialogue provides opportunities for listening and understanding one another in a way that can bring us together rather than divide us.”
The DEIB club will hold more events in the future to further gain interest and assist the LVC community.
“We have a lot of stuff in the works right now, such as a Night of Service, campus dialogues, craft nights and more,” Vinson said. “All of our members are super excited to get involved on campus and make our community even stronger.”
