The nationally ranked LVC softball squad opened up its season in Clermont, Florida.
The Dutchmen played 10 games throughout the week of spring break, facing strong competition, including a matchup against the reigning national champion. The team finished the week with an 8-2 record, with two of the wins coming from exciting comebacks in the seventh innings.
There were also some milestones hit by key players on the team. Junior second basemen Lexi Smith got her 100th hit in the final game of the week against Kean University.
Senior centerfielder Lindsey McCurdy has tied the career triples record of 16 after hitting two this week. Her second triple of the week came in walk-off fashion to give the Dutchmen a big win against Kean.
The squad has high expectations, as they are currently ranked No. 19 in the country and are the favorites to win the MAC Freedom. Catch the Dutchmen’s home and conference opener on Saturday, March 16, at 1 and 3 p.m.
