On Sunday, Nov. 13, the LVC Symphony Orchestra and Alumni Orchestra merged together to perform their long-awaited 25th-anniversary recital.

This recital, in addition to the LVC Symphony Orchestra’s tour of Europe, was initially planned in the fall of 2019. When COVID-19 caused worldwide lockdowns, both events were canceled, and planning was put on hiatus.

Finally, the recital was able to be safely planned and executed in the fall of 2022, two full years after it was initially planned. The tour of Europe will also be occurring in May 2023.

Alumni of all ages made their way back to LVC between Nov. 11 and Nov. 13 for the recital, adding an additional 80 musicians to the full combined orchestra.

Although the LVC Symphony Orchestra performed the first half of the recital alone, the alumni joined them on stage and completed the second half of the show with a total force of 130 musicians.

To add to the excitement, this recital was also the world premiere event for two separate pieces. “Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Orchestra” by LVC’s own Jacob McGovern, ’24, and “Speakeasy” by Richard Pearson Thomas, a piece commissioned specifically for the LVC Symphony Orchestra.

The LVC Symphony Orchestra looks to hold a 30th-anniversary reunion recital on April 13, 2023, to once again welcome back alumni and students alike to Lutz Hall for a night of incredible music and memories.
