The Flying Dutchmen were victorious during Homecoming weekend.
The field hockey team started the weekend off with a huge 5-0 win against Hood College on Friday night.
Saturday was just as exciting, despite the rain. The women’s soccer team won an important conference game against York College. The football team continued the winning trend as it defeated Alvernia with a final score of 31-10.
The last game of the weekend was men’s soccer versus York College. The game turned out to be quite the thriller.
With just over three minutes remaining in the game, the Dutchmen were down by 1. However, Aaron Weitzel, a first-year forward, wasn’t willing to give up a Homecoming win. Weitzel scored off a pass from Anderson Velozwong, a senior forward, to even the score at 2-2 and send the game into overtime.
The Dutchmen were able to score in the extra period to secure the win. David Alcock, a senior captain, had the game-winning goal.
“I was truly overcome with emotions after scoring the game winner,” Alcock said. “Being surrounded by alumni, friends, family and most importantly the team made the moment unforgettable.”
Another team that had a triumphant Homecoming weekend was the swim team. It won the third annual “Dutchmen Dance Off” on Friday evening after the pep rally. The drumline earned second place and the field hockey team placed third.
Conference playoffs for fall sports teams begin the first week of November.
