The Lebanon Valley College men’s golf team looks to build upon a successful 2016-17 season with a strong showing this fall and a run at the MAC title in the spring of 2018.

The team had one of its best seasons in 2016-17 as it accumulated 12 top-five finishes, including three wins and a third-place finish at the MAC championship.

The men posted a team score of 299 at the Elizabethtown Fall Invitational–its lowest score since 2004. Additionally, freshman Thomas Moran won two individual events.

Goal setting is something the team does before each season.

“Our team goal is to win multiple tournaments this fall season in hopes of building some good momentum that can carry us through the winter and into the spring season,” David Herbst, a junior actuarial science major and team captain, said. “We have new indoor practice equipment too, so we will be able to stay on top of our game during the winter and plan on making a strong push for the MAC Championship in the spring, as well as an appearance in nationals.”

LVC men’s golf returns many key players from last year; however, they have some gaps to fill as both captains graduated this past spring.

“I think our team will miss the leadership we had last year but will be able to recoup just fine with our new captains,” Thomas Moran, a sophomore business administration major, said. “We have a talented team and we all took a lot away from the spring season. Our team is willing to put in the work necessary to win and I think that it will show significantly this year.”

The team will have plenty of opportunities to prove themselves this season. They will compete in seven tournaments this fall, and wrap the season up at the Franklin & Marshall Invitational on Oct. 16.
